2021-2022 Art Show

"ColorLight"

Color is Light. Light is Color.
Color is reflected Light and Light is wavelengths of Color. Big Art this year has tried to reflect that relationship and ride those waves. We began methodically mixing colors. With the 3 primaries we learned to make the secondaries PURPLE and further experimented with all color combinations. Next we explored the emotion of Color Field painters, like Rothko, and created color collages on large paper. I heard Kandinsky could hear color, so we listened to his abstract compositions and created our own. Matisse introduced the “wild beasts” of color called Fauvists and we fashioned portraits. Then we watched how crayons are made and sampled the many shades, tones and hues of Crayola. Light inspired watercolors produced multitudes of flowers in vases on postcards with love and hope in our hearts. And now, here in the “Connector” gallery, we wish to reconnect in the light of transparencies. Unmasked self portraits colorfully shine amidst a whole school collaborative transformation of space through the power of Color & Light.
